Centre Championships 2018

This season’s Centre Championships will be held on Saturday the 17th of March starting at 4pm.

Only Werribee Athletes are eligible to enter this free event, with medals being presented to the top 3 place getters in each age group, and ribbons to all other competitors. Please be aware that if there is more than 1 heat for a laned track event, medals will be awarded on times as we are unable to schedule finals.

Athletes MUST wear their Werribee uniform and Subway patches to be able to compete.

Athletes are able to select a maximum of 4 events. Please CLICK HERE for a schedule of track events. Please check for clashes, as track events will not wait for athletes who are competing at another track event (800m will be running at the same time as hurdle events).  The timetable will be finalised once we have received all entries.

We will endeavour to schedule Field events around track events to avoid clashes where possible, however track events take priority over field events. Field events will not be finalised until all athletes have completed their event (for highjump, although an atlete is allowed to leave the event, on returning from a track event the athlete must continue form the bars current height, the bar will not come down to a lower height.)  These are standard rules applied at all LAVIC competitions.

Athlete numbers may see events combined with other age groups, however medals will be awarded to all age groups.

Due to the nature of this event all parents will be required to do duty on the day and Team Managers may not be available to escort athletes to their events.

We will be holding a BBQ on the night with all funds raised being returned to the club.

Entries close on Friday the 9th of March at 11.59pm, no late entries will be accepted.

WLAC supports Light the Night

Today another 35 people will be told they have blood cancer. Be the light in their darkest hour at this inspiring twilight event.

Now in its tenth year, Light the Night is a unique fundraising event bringing Australia’s blood cancer community together in more than 140 locations to remember and reflect during a moving ceremony and short lantern walk.

Last year, more than 35,000 people from every Australian state and territory attended a Light the Night, together raising a life-saving $2 million!

Those attending raise money beforehand to help give local families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support that will light the way forward.

Light the Night fundraisers all receive a coloured lantern to carry as darkness falls and celebrate what they’ve achieved to help people with blood cancer.

Register at https://lightthenight.org.au/event/werribee to reserve your lantern.

Come and join us for Light the Night this Saturday 14th October at Wyndham Harbour, Werribee South.

Werribee Little Athletics are supporting this cause by cooking the BBQ on the night, please come down say hello.

2017/18 season starts this Saturday.

Relays

Werribee LAC has a proud tradition of competing at relays over the years and wish for the tradition to continue. This year we will be hosting the Regional Relay Championships on Saturday the 25th of November, with the State Championships being held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park on the 4th of February.

The relay championships give our U9 to U17 athletes a chance to compete in a team environment in a variety of events which include the following:

  • 4 x 100m for all age groups as well as mixed sex (2 girls and 2 boys)
  • 4 x 200m for all age groups as well as mixed sex (2 girls and 2 boys)
  • Medley races (2 x 100m, 1 x 200m & 1 x 400m) for all age groups as well as a variety of mixed aged groups.

Training will commence for the U9/U10 age groups Wednesday 11/10/2022, with the U11+ commencing 25/10. Training from 5.30pm every Wednesday night for approximately 1hr.

Like any other regional event, parents will be required to do a duty during the day, this will be organised once final numbers are completed.

Please be aware that the State Finals for relays are later this year and occur on the 4th of February, and both Regional and State Championships are full day events. For your child to be eligible, they MUST be available on both dates.

Duty Roster

Each season we rely on parents to complete duty on a regular basis to help the centre run smoothly and on time. Without you, we would not be able to offer all our events each week.

Once again we are using the website www.signupgenius.com to control our duties. Please enter the link below and sign up for 4-5 duties for the entire summer season. You will need to create an account when you sign up which only requires a valid email address. We are also letting parents follow their children to each field event to provide support to the group.

If we do not get enough volunteers each week, we will need to revert back to allocating duties for parents, or unfortunately cancel events.
