The Centre aims to provide opportunities for all children to participate in a supportive environment that emphasises enjoyment, skill development and active lifestyles.

To be a leading community-based junior athletics organisation that inspires children of all abilities to participate, develop fundamental skills, and build a lifelong connection with sport and healthy living.

OUR VISION

OUR VALUES

At our Centre, everything we do is guided by the Little Athletics philosophy of Family, Fun and Fitness. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to participate, learn and grow, regardless of their ability, background or experience. We believe sport should be enjoyable and rewarding, fostering confidence, resilience and a focus on personal improvement. Through strong family involvement and community support, we build meaningful connections that strengthen our club and enrich the experience for all members. Above all, we promote integrity, respect, fair play and good sportsmanship, helping young athletes develop valuable life skills both on and off the track.

Our Story

Werribee Little Athletics Centre (WLAC) is an affiliated member of Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic), which comprises of 104 centres across Victoria, and which sees over 22,000 Little Athletes compete on a weekly basis.

WLAC subscribes to the core values of Little Athletics Victoria, with an emphasis on “Family, Fun and Fitness” and a focus on individual self-improvement, not just winning.

WLAC is run by volunteers, and parents/carers are always needed to help out with the centre program as team managers, officials and general helpers to ensure competition days run smoothly.  Active family participation is required at a centre that sees over 300 Little Athletes given the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including running, jumping, throwing and walking, on a weekly basis.

Centre History

Little Athletics in Werribee commenced in 1970 on a grass track at Galvin Park, with competition between six participating clubs: Glen Devon, Hoppers Crossing, Little River, St Andrews, Werribee Primary (renamed Werribee Central in 1990) and Werribee South.  Werribee South and Little River ceased to operate in 1973 and 1974 respectively, but Windemere (later Wyndhamvale from 1979) joined the competition in 1976.

In 2003 competition moved from the grass track at Galvin Park to a synthetic track at the newly-constructed Wyndham Sports Complex.  WLAC was joined by Lara for four seasons from 2003 whist the Corio track was upgraded.

In 2008, geographic names were discontinued and were replaced by clubs named after members of the big cat species.

In 2015, clubs were removed and we continued to operate as 1 centre.

In 2026, Our Centre has moved from our venue at Victoria University Sports Complex to a new track that was established at Fortitude Drive, Truganina.
